Students, faculty, and community members packed our town-hall at FIU to speak out against the cooperation between ICE and campus police.

The police chief just confirmed that university cops would detain and place students without legal status in immigration detention even if stopped for something minor, like a traffic infraction.

It was brought up that the “training” to deputize these Florida police officers to conduct federal immigration enforcement in our communities and universities is a 40-hour webinar. Absurd.

Police chief was just asked if students should carry their documentation on campus now that the university police has been deputized to do immigration enforcement. His answer: “that would help.” FIU is a show me your papers campus. Sad to see this at this otherwise great school.

Happening in Tallahassee, Florida right now. Immigration raid against people who are literally working to build our housing by ICE agents wearing military gear and looking like they are in a war-zone.

Raid conducted by Homeland Security along the ATF, and state police agencies including Florida Highway Patrol and the FDLE. Why is the Florida Highway Patrol focused on harassing construction workers on a workday is beyond me.

Are we really comfortable with these immigration enforcement agents who have been militarized to the point of resembling a domestic paramilitary continuing to cover their faces while conducting these types of operations in our neighborhoods?
