The plinth of the 1000 year old Walton Cross stands a short distance from the West Yorkshire village of Hartshead. It is incredible to think that these intricate carvings have survived the rigours of the Yorkshire weather for so long.

The rosebay willow herb is taking over the lead role from the foxgloves now in Brontë Country, soon to be followed by the star of the show, the ling heather.

The Brontë Bridge crosses South Dean Beck at the foot of the Brontë Waterfall. This quiet, secluded spot is becoming noticeably greener every year as the silver birch and rowan trees get bigger. This time of year, if you're lucky, you can hear cuckoos here early in the morning.
