The African slavery narrative (as told in the US) is used to paint Africans and African-Americans as would-be enslavers. As bad people.

Saying that the presence of slavery somewhere on the continent of Africa somehow justified slavery elsewhere, for different people, is crazy

People's beliefs on race--as with many things--come from emotion/tradition/pride/received wisdom/etc., not logic.

So I don't know if a long reasoned explanation of why slavery was wrong is the most helpful way to fight racism but

Af Am History Fail A fave hobby when I lived in Florida was telling white folks who claimed Seminole ancestry that, if that was the case, they might have black in them as well due to that tribe's actions during slavery times. The looks on their faces? #Priceless
