This Friday's blog post is going to be a reflection on this year's JACET conference, including my co-presented workshop with the brilliant Martha Ramirez But, before that, Martha had some lovely words to say. linkedin.com/posts/martha-r…

What an awazing weekend in Kobe! I gave a workshop on the growth mindset, which included a debut for my Growth Mindset Game. I must say that the game worked a dream. All participants were fantastic, too, which made presenting a breeze! Thank you Ai and Yuki for the invitation!

I contributed a chapter to this book (Bringing Sarcasm and the Speech Act of Requests Into the Tertiary EFL Classroom With Short Movie Clips), it was a pleasure to work with Adrian and Matt and delighted to finally see it in print.

Thank you to the students who laughed at my random stupid joke during class today: "'Amotivation' means no motivation, because 'A' at the beginning of a word can mean 'no', like 非. So, my name, 'Adrian,' means, 'no drian.'" If you're catching on with that, you're doing great!

In this week's post, I take a look at some techniques for strengthening intrinsic motivation from my class on motivation last Wednesday. (I'm experiencing a bit of website trouble the moment, so this is a temporary home for this week's post.) docs.google.com/document/d/1YI…

Had a great lesson today. We looked at what makes us happy, what we do to make others happy, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, & a dictogloss on wellbeing. We watched the video below & did a task about caring for others. Meaningful discussions! SielpA_Books youtu.be/tX8TgVR33KM?si…

It’s been a busy few weeks preparing, but I’m looking forward to presenting at JALT next week. My talk explores how authentic materials such as scenes from dramas and real interactions in izakayas and neighborhood bars can develop pragmatic competence in JFL.
