I was angry. Not sure why. I realised it was because I was misunderstood. . She was angry. I thought maybe my words were harsh. Only later I figured she was misunderstood too. . Stress and emotion obscure rational thinking.

In protecting the ego with negative emotion (e.g. fear of being misunderstood), one may think and act too foolishly that the ego and pride is damaged regardless. Therefore, it is more important to maintain composure.

Examples are easily seen in politics: A stupid instruction is made in a rush possibly to emphasize one's stance. Respect is gone, so are the ego and pride. One could either make a U-turn or bulldoze like a dumb bull. Either way, it would have been a clumsy loss.
