As BIPOC journalists we need to realise that being given a platform to write about race is important, but true diversifying means we shouldn't just be confined to writing about race/identity issues. Only celebrating journos who do that serves to perpetuate tokenism.

“These are the same people saying that we can’t have tuition-free public colleges because there’s no money, when these motherf**kers are only paying $750 a year in taxes.” - Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, speaking with characteristic bluntness & fire, to ⁦VANITY FAIR⁩: vanityfair.com/news/2020/10/b…

I don’t know if I can overstate how much it means to me and to millions of others, and what a big bloody deal it is, that today we learned the Muslim ban will be gone in January 2020. Lifted. Repealed. Reversed. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Really powerful story by Azam Ahmed, a tale of two kidnappings that says so much about Mexico's failed law enforcement. A country where cousins kidnap cousins, and grieving mothers have to do the detective work on their own. nytimes.com/2020/12/13/wor…

Spent some time the past days looking for outlets to publish a story on education in Syria and the number of articles from some big outlets on the country is shocking...it seems to be slipping off our radar?!😔

The White Tiger is an incredible book and it’s latest film adaptation on Netflix is —as is so rarely the case—just as good. It highlights some key issues of casteism, albeit catered to a Western audience. This article is a good accompaniment to it. npr.org/sections/goats…

A woman did her regular aerobics class out in open without realizing that a coup was taking place in #Myanmar. A Military convoy reaching the parliament can be seen behind the woman as she performs aerobics. Incredible!

HELP! What words/expressions we use in the aid/humanitarian/development sector that are completely normalised but completely inappropriate? I am compiling a list. My examples include: beneficiaries, field, mission, deployment, etc.

We have never been “all in this together”, caught in the vice grip of capitalism and colonialism with a dash of charity. #COVID19 #vaccines

Vigils tonight in #Myanmar as the post-coup death count accelerates. According to the UN, the military regime has killed at least 70 Burmese since February 1—and over half of them have been young people under the age of 25.
