Brown hare showing both ears crossed to one side. Hares have very good hearing and sense of smell, both coupled with excellent eyesight. It's Britains fastest land mammal and heavily steeped in folklore. [email protected] #brownhare #Spencerestates
St. Mary's church, Syderstone. Origins of the tower from this amazing church date from the 12th. century. A part of the 'Creakes' benefice of four parishes, this is a very beautiful Norfolk church, well worth a visit. [email protected] #Spencerestates #Norfolk
Walking up Blue-Bank Hill in Althorp Park. It's surprisingly warm here in middle England on this fine September day. [email protected] #Spencerestates #September #Northamptonshire
Folk that walk their dogs in the countryside and leave dog poo bags strewn behind dry stone walls or discard them in bushes, please tell me on what level do you think this is acceptable. Its not normal behaviour, you're not responsible, its disgraceful. [email protected]
It's not just discarded dog poo bags that we have to pick up across the estate, it's literally everything imaginable. It must take more time and effort to come into the countryside to dump it, rather than dispose of it responsibly nearer to home! [email protected] #trash
Elephant Hawk-moth trudging across Althorp this morning, certainly looking like it's on a mission. These huge caterpillars are completely harmless and feed on willowherb, fuchsia and bedstraw. Placed into a safe area. [email protected] Pic. Anne T. #Spencerestates
A string of black byrony berries draped through the hedgerow this morning. Black byrony is our only native member of the yam family. This is a poisonous plant and the berries especially so. [email protected] #hedgerows
Ivy is a very important source of nectar and pollen at autumn time. Often maligned, ivy comes into flower as many other plants start to die off. This small patch is full of red admiral butterflies and bees. Don't cut it back if it's doing no harm. [email protected] #bees
Very obliging Kestrel hovering overhead on "the hunt" today. The sun was in the right place for once, lighting the falcon beautifully. [email protected] #windhover #wildlife #Spencerestates
Watching the watcher! Glad I'm not a shrew or fieldvole. [email protected] #kestrel #Spencerestates
Great Green Bush-Cricket (Tettigonia viridissima). A cracking beastie to have jump up on you, they can bite, but this one was friendly. They are Britain's largest breeding orthopteran at 40-55mm. Their "song" can be heard from up to 200m. [email protected] #Spencerestates
Is that a Souther hawker I spy in those nettles? [email protected] #dragonflies #nature #Spencerestates
Little egret wading in this evenings wonderful light. [email protected] #wetlands #waders #Spencerestates
