The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative LeishAccess team is in Kampala, Uganda for a stakeholder meeting with Ministry of Health- Uganda, Makerere University Sagaki Patrick Duncan Ankunda Ivan to deliberate on country strategies that will bolster access to treatments for those affected by leishmaniasis

Results from a study by Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative & partners have shown that a better, shorter combination treatment is effective in treating visceral #leishmaniasis in Eastern Africa. The new treatment is safer and reduces hospitalization time. #HopeForLeishmaniasis bit.ly/3KwEjTZ

This week, health care workers from regional health bureaus & visceral #Leishmaniasis treatment centers in Amhara, the Southern Nations, Nationalities, & Peoples' Region (SNNP) & Oromia regions in Ethiopia were trained on the new HIV-VL treatment guidelines. #HopeforLeishmaniasis

The national HIV/VL guidelines were launched during the training. Ethiopia 🇪🇹 is the first country to adopt the new treatment following the release of World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines in June 2022 & a clinical trial by Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative, MSF East Africa and partners. bit.ly/3hwjFJq
