Today's weather forecast always looked promising. Unfortunately pre-work at #LMGP, the rain was too heavy, but I wasn't surprised that by late morning a Little Tern and Greenshank had arrived, found by Jackie and a Dunlin, found by Simon R. All still present at lunch :)

2 Cattle Egrets were new for year at #LMGP this morning. Poor records at 1st light - the more advanced bird flew high south at 6am. The non-breeding bird hung around for a couple more hours, had a look at the north fields then also flew south.

A fun 30 minutes on my #LMGP patch this morning. A Whimbrel on arrival flew off at 6:05, then 3 Greenshank flew in calling at 6:25 accompanied by 2 ad Kittiwakes. Waders back lit into early sun as looking east. Record crop of Kittiwakes - 1 on the water, 1 flying.

Well that was completely unexpected, a drake Eider found this morning at Calvert Sailing Lake by Tim Watts. A Bucks county tick for most people, the last in 1993. Always distant, so a massive crop, but what a fantastic record 🙌

Visited @bbowt Gallows Bridge Farm on the way home. Was told a pair of Curlew were on view, but found these two Whimbrel, possibly the same birds seen a week ago. Also lots of odonata on the hide pool: Hairy, 4 Spot Chaser and a couple of Downy Emeralds

Waders moving at #LMGP today: 15 Common Sandpipers on the spit first thing is my largest Spring flock, a nice Ringed Plover joined the throng for an hour until c8am and was replaced by this spangly Wood Sandpiper. Rubbish light 1st thing so returned this pm 👌

A 2cy Caspian Gull dropped in to #LMGP this morning with good numbers of LWHG. Much more advanced than the bird earlier this week, also probably a female as quite dainty. Open wing shows moult in inner primaries.

A bit of a movement of 2cy Caspian Gulls through #LMGP this week. This is this morning's bird - the 3rd different Casp there this week.

An after work trip to Otmoor for the Savi’s Warbler. Sang more and showed occasionally as the evening drew on. Nice to catch up with some of the Oxon birders.

My 1st juvenile Yellow-legged Gull of the season yesterday evening (July 5th) at #LMGP. My earliest here by some days - glad to see them back.

This Cattle Egret flew in to #LMGP just after 6am this morning - all photos against the sun - presumed juvenile with down still showing and dark marks on the bill. Tried to make friends with the locals, but they weren't very friendly.

Large Scabious Mining Bee, Andrena hattorfiana. First noticed this species last year - visiting the patio plants again today.
