Sad to read about Dag Solstad's passing. Armand V is one of my favorite novels, and T. Singer is fantastic, as is Professor Anderson's Night and Shyness & Dignity. I was lucky enough to interview him a few years ago and he was characteristically brilliant: publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/au…

John Domini was a lovely person, incredibly supportive behind the scenes, and a total pleasure to work with. Thinking of his family and friends today.

I am very moved that the board of the National Book Critics Circle has chosen me to serve as our next President. It’s an incredible group of critics, and I can't wait to get to work.

Small Rain has won the PEN/Faulkner Award. I don’t know what to say, except that I’m very grateful to the judges, & very moved to see my book included alongside such excellent writers.

The National Book Critics Circle (National Book Critics Circle) has opened applications for its Emerging Critics Fellowship, due 5/9. If you're a critic (of any age) getting started in book reviewing, please apply! Such a great opportunity. ow.ly/SiXL50VA1WT

Stunned to learn after watching Pasolini's "The Gospel According to St. Matthew" that Natalia Ginzburg plays the woman anointing Jesus

Had a totally blissed-out experience watching Marclay’s “The Clock” at MOMA - it was my second time, and the fifteen minute build-up to noon remains one of my favorite sequences in any movie. On for a few more days and no lines in the morning!

Thank you to The Bergman Estate on Fårö for two extraordinary weeks in Sweden—to write at the same desk where Ingmar wrote Fanny and Alexander, watch films in his private cinema, and wander the beaches of Bergman Island was the gift of gifts

Strongly recommend the new restoration of Tsui Hark's 1984 film Shanghai Blues, which is playing this week at Metrograph in NYC. Antic, stylized, sometimes dated, but always giddy and sincere.

This is really a top 11 - they didn't have Kaili Blues available, which definitely would have made it. Toughest cuts were One Fine Morning, Llewyn Davis, Ratatouille, Heavenly Body, Edge of Tomorrow, 2046/In The Mood for Love, The Lives of Others, and Your Name.
