We learn from each other all the time - this week we learnt from activists on two Peabody estates (Nags Head and Thamesmead) about how they are bringing people together, united for housing justice!

"People are gradually turning away from the shared ownership (SO) tenure, and more and more SO homes go unsold ... sooner or later something will have to give." The type of housing being delivered is not the type that people need - genuinely low rentals. Govt needs to refocus.

If politicians won't act, we will. Places for People residents withholding payment because service charges rose from £505 a month to £605 a month, and "they are charging £2,000 p/m for communal lighting on four floors”. #RentStrikes #ServiceChargeStrikes

Too many families left in this situation. Yet this government is obsessed with headline figures on the number of new properties built. Instead, it should focus on ensuring that the right kind of housing is available at low cost rent and kept under democratic control.

Jakia is such an inspiration. Thank you for helping tell our stories, and most importantly, showing that people are not helpless even in the face of powerful landlords. youtu.be/hIwo0KFh4nE?si…

'Affordable housing' is a misleading name. It means rents can be up to 80% of prices on the open market. In an overheated rental market, a 20% discount does not make a home affordable, especially when salaries have absolutely not kept pace with inflation.

The legal framework is so heavily geared in favour of landlords that tenants & residents are left almost powerless. Leasehold reform isn't a full solution, but shouldn't be derailed. Tenants & residents must get a fairer deal so we're supporting this judicial review.

Freeholders like the Duke of Westminster are like King Canute desparately trying to hold back a tide of opposition to the parasitic landlowning class. #FreeLeaseholders

It fails to address the central question on regulating service charges. No reference is made at all to the need for meaningful penalties. Nor is additional support offered to those needing to challenge their service charges. It's a fail from Angela Rayner Matthew Pennycook MP Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Gov

Govt charges watchdogs with regulating landlord behaviour, but housing conditions & treatment of tenants are in sharp decline. The medicine’s not working, Tenants and residents have given up waiting for govt to ride to the rescue. They are organising a better solution.

Council rents/tenants service charges have risen above inflation over the last few years as services decline & repairs flounder - when will this be called out by those who should know better - the cost of living crisis is hitting harder those less able to pay - truly shocking

You could replace 'Clarion' with the name of any other major housing association - same old same old and it's time Matthew Pennycook MP and Angela Rayner stop bowing to them and instead took control - this is what they were elected to do.

We also raised our voices on behalf of all those who are still living in substandard housing, not just owned by NHG, but all landlords. All homes should be fit for life, and we will not give up until we get housing justice.

Baby Akram's death and the conditions in the family home due to poor maintenance has been barely reported. We need the spotlight to shine on rotten social housing. No-one should have to live like this.

"On the surface, Riverside presents as an award-winning housing provider. Dig a little deeper, however, and you’ll find enough chaos, secrecy, and institutional gaslighting to make Al Capone blush." 🤣 #EndServiceChargeAbuse
