“When Barton Hill mum Fadumo Farah wound up living in a cramped Holiday Inn room with a “horrendous” mattress after her tower block home was evacuated, she wasn’t going to take it lying down.” Great interview with Fadumo about our Barton Hill campaign🔈 thebristolcable.org/2024/09/listen…

Across the UK we’ve seen instances of councillors who rent being expected to excuse themselves from debates on rental issues, yet landlord MPs can vote on these issues while mistreating their tenants.

Not only is it painfully slow, it’s cheaper to fly from Leeds to Majorca tomorrow than it is to get an open return from Leeds to Nottingham.

Right to Buy has been disastrous: 40% of council houses sold through it are now owned by landlords & very few have been replaced. This would be a positive step, but it only applying to new council houses isn’t enough. We need to abolish Right to Buy FULLY.telegraph.co.uk/money/property…

“The Grenfell Tower disaster was the result of “decades of failure” by government to stop the spread of combustible cladding combined with the “systematic dishonesty” of multimillion-dollar companies whose products spread the fire that killed 72 people.” theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

New council houses are eligible to be sold through Right to Buy at a discount just 3 years after they are built. The problem with RTB is not solely that councils lose social housing stock, but it acts as a huge disincentive for councils to build more.

“More than a million still in fire-risk flats despite Grenfell.” It’s absolutely sickening that unsafe cladding is still putting lives at risk 7 years after Grenfell. A national disgrace. trib.al/T4K54aN

If Royal Mail are so strapped for cash that they're considering scrapping second class letter deliveries on Saturdays, maybe they should look towards the hundreds of millions of pounds they pay out to shareholders most years... theguardian.com/business/artic…

Over 40% of council houses sold under Right to Buy are now in the hands of private landlords. But apparently that doesn’t reduce council housing stock 🤔

Poppy Burt, who chairs ACORN Brighton: Community Union, said: “Bailiffs are brutal and unnecessary. These bullies traumatise our communities and leave people afraid of every knock on the door. The council needs to boot bailiffs out of our city for good.” 👏 theargus.co.uk/news/24556726.…

🚫 1 in 3 people contacted by bailiffs report them breaking the rules, & there’s no evidence that bailiff use increases council tax collection rates. We’ve won this campaign in Manchester. Now let’s win it in Brighton👊
