Juvenile lake sturgeon from the Menominee River are living their best life, patiently awaiting their release.

Last weekend I surgically implanted 100 age-0 lake sturgeon with acoustic transmitters to be released infour tributaries of the Saginaw River..

... 1 week later and the wounds are looking great! Next, I head to Genoa, Wisconsin, to tag an additional 80 fish for release in Saginaw.

Had our fair share of problems today including a hidden dead head, but we managed to recover a very important receiver today 🙌

This #TagReturnTuesday sturgeon was originally tagged in 2018 at 5 years old and recaptured in 2023 at 10 years old. It has had a fast growth rate relative to other #LakeSturgeon we have aged, being 32.3 inches long at 5 years old and 45.2 inches at 10 years old. #GreatLakesSci
