Received images from a French colleague today. I’ve been waiting to see him for a decade. Isn’t he great? Note also the aquatic ear style, which is occasionally found on Achelous. Roman, 1st century AD. A yoke fitting. But I can’t understand how it would have worked.

Etruscan, c. 500 BC. Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlung Ludwig. I now have a professional photo from the museum who gave me several photos to use for free . I’m so grateful for such museums. And the curators were so fast to respond.

As my book expenses start piling up, I’ve decided to start selling some material from my secondary collections using the really terrific L5 platform. US only (for now). I’ll have coins for newcomers and veterans, always starting at $1.00. l5.com/Listing/Detail…

For students entering second year research (assuming they’ve earned the marks). Will paint soon. We’ll start with a lecture on Janus and the technology of the Corvus.

This is a real disgrace. I think there are two Sergetaian coins featuring Achelous in existence. This would be the third. So heavily tooled that I can’t be sure if it ever really was a Sergetaian coin. I’d have paid a couple thousands for the worn specimen. This, nothing.

The funny thing about writing a major reference book on a topic is that, rather than it completing my study, I now have several essays on deck that emerged in the process. At least I’ll have a solid reference on hand! AE unit from the Sileraioi ❤️

Arrived. Fastest peer review I’ve ever been through. But it still took years for me to set the record straight. This whole fiasco is the problem with the pressure to publish in academia.

Successfully cut the draft from 248k to 219k words. 230k is my cap, so thankfully I should have enough room for a good index and concordances. Might add a section on “further research” as well. SO much there, folks.

A new faience aryballos! It's been hiding in the Princeton collection since the 1950s, overlooked by Isler. Early phase of production to judge from the extended chin. Egyptian provenance. I'm super excited!
