Excellent day of meetings with Provincial Ghost Gear Working Group. This summer we, supported by Coastal Action, will conduct shoreline and deep water cleanups throughout the south & southwest coasts to retrieve abandon or lost fishing gear (and any other debris we encounter).

There are many issues, ranging from stream bank erosion / siltation to obstructions to passage, that affect fish habitat on our streams and rivers. We’ve used a drone to survey waterways in & around Hare Bay on Great Northern Peninsula, as part of a project funded by FCAS-FCSA

We were part of this important work, having surveyed culverts throughout western NL, Burgeo highway, Hampton, Baie Verte & Springdale regions. We look forward to now working with Fisheries and Oceans to restore connectivity in areas where barriers to fish passage have been identified

Hey Southwest Coast friends, have any old traps, nets, ropes, or pots laying around? If stored along the shoreline it’s at risk of washing into the ocean and causing harm as "ghost gear". Lets dispose of used fishing gear responsibly - bring it for recycling. Details below
