Hello to all the people who used to be bold, yet academia made you afraid. May you find your voice again one day.

One of the things about “just Google it” or “do your own research” (no shade or shaming anyone, I’ve done it often) is that the lack of media literacy means people don’t have fully developed research skills nor the practiced discernment to separate out quality information.

I’ve received a lot of advice about how to prioritize tenure over being fully present for students. And it’s sad that students get positioned as things which are distracting and take time away from tenure-granting activities instead of as people trying to navigate academia too.

Do not expect your PhD journey to be linear, expect it to be messy.
