The swabbing of 80% of the Prison Service have been done and we are continuing with sample collection with the expectation that it will be completed tonight. At this time we do not have results. This was a miscommunication, apologies.

The situation we are in at HMP DODDS is not ideal but I want Barbadians to know the integrity of the security of the prison is not compromised and the care of inmates and staff remains a priority.

They have been no reported incidents at HMP Dodds. Prison Officers, BDF Officers and the RBPF are all working together.

The first positive test of an inmate came after the first prison officer returned a positive result.

Zoom Meetings all day seems like it’s from one crisis to another. Whether it be the South Coast Sewage issue, the Water Woes, Covid-19 in general or now the situation at Dodds... Definitely remembering the Rt Hon. Owen Arthur’s line during these times “Face It and Fix It”.

I will be having a Press Conference today on the outskirts of HMP Dodds at 4pm. I will be joined by Supt of Prisons, Col. Nurse; BDF Sec. Major Cedric Proverbs; and either Dr. Warde or Dr. Forde.

The press conference had to be at HMP Dodds so that the persons you actually want to get information from could be present, the Superintendent of Prisons as well as the doctor cannot leave. We have fully sanitized the area specifically for this press conference.
