I hope for Wes Streeting 's sake (as much as for my own aesthetic pangs' indulgence) that the choice of the Andante of Mozart's Piano Concerto no 21 in C-Major as the music you hear when NHS 111 puts you on hold was made under his watch. If so, my confidence in him goes up! :)

I really will have to have a word with myself at some point on reading newspapers more thoroughly. Cannot believe I missed this absolutely fantastic Times Leader from a few months ago! thetimes.com/comment/the-ti…

Sharing this as it is a very well-written critique of an aspect of the CJS most non-UK lawyers would find very surprising. Congratulations on this, Legal Style Blog .

A fascinating piece on the right to trial by jury, including a particularly interesting discussion of the different senses in which a right might be 'constitutional'. The argument that Leveson adopted an unduly narrow view of this seems compelling to me. ukconstitutionallaw.org/2025/07/18/ale…

J. Stew has hit the nail on the head, as he often does. One of the major U.S. TV personalities I watched since I started becoming politically aware, around age 14, was Colbert. Very disappointing decision by CBS.

Am I the only one who thinks that coming up with these solutions does not require extraordinary brainpower, so much as rigorous application of common sense? If correct, are we to conclude that a major problem is that NHS bosses lack common sense? thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…?

A petition last year in favour of an early general election garnered 3 million signatures. Not holding an election in response was not undemocratic; the same goes for this petition. To suggest otherwise is fundamentally to misunderstand the nature of parliamentary democracy. 1/2

The EHRC must have a minimum of 10 commissioners. Currently, it only has 8, mostly appointed by Truss/Badenoch who wanted to influence the body. Labour (Bridget Phillipson) must balance this by appointing at least one trans person and others with different views for legitimacy.

You have heard it before but please Thomson Reuters Westlaw Westlaw UK STOP LOGGING ME OFF IN THE TIME IT TAKES ME TO READ ONE OF THE JUDGMENTS I HAVE OPENED IN A NEW TAB. It cannot be that hard to fix. And now I have lost my other open tabs, so when I log in again it returns to the home page.

Another excellent piece! Really tongue in cheek ending, too (though I am not entirely sure it's a joke!). Of course, the principle of the British being able to listen in to what is being said, done and written in there is fundamentally sound. thetimes.com/comment/column…

Fantastic report, wonderfully comprehensive. Classic and undisputed illustration of why RNIB is one of the best advocacy organisations in the world! The issues I face with bus travel were properly represented, while I also learned about stuff others are facing which I do not.

again, the tone of surprise! Actually, this is no surprise at all. The numbers of disabled people who have experienced ableist behaviour from non-disabled healthcare professionals is off the charts. I am part of that off the charts statistic, by the way. thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…?
