As the nation mourns, we still need to keep each other safe. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. Report online in confidence at gov.uk/ACT

What a powerful cartoon from The Times and The Sunday Times I spoke to a woman on my way into work today still grieving the loss of someone in her own family. Today has brought it all back. Funerals are hard. We can all look out for the lonely #funeral #queensfuneral

After summer recess, the sad death of the late Queen and conference recess, the Commons returns on Tuesday and will sit for the next 11 weeks until December 21. (There is a November recess but only the Thursday sitting on 10 November is affected.)

One member of 1922 executive tells me “odds are against” Liz Truss surviving the day as PM. Committee is expected to meet later to discuss the leadership crisis.

On this day in 1605 a plot to murder the King, members of the Royal family, peers, MPs, bishops and judges by blowing up the House of Lords at the state opening was foiled. 36 barrels of gunpowder were found in the undercroft beneath the Lords chamber.

Really interesting CoffeeHouse Live discussion on the UK’s progress towards net zero and the challenges that remain, following the Secretary of State Rt Hon Grant Shapps opening keynote focusing on CCUS.

Today we publish Climate Change Committee annual report on progress in reducing UK emissions. We reflect on policy progress in a year that brought the UK’s first recorded 40C day and spiralling fossil fuel costs. And there’s a reality check on the acceleration needed for 2030 and beyond. 🧵

A very sad time at Brunswick Group - we’re all still reeling from this devastating news. I’m terrible at finding the right words in these situations but thankfully Damian McBride puts it perfectly. I’m really going to miss that laugh.

It was great to speak at the Brunswick Group event at the National Theatre last night. Labour has a plan to support the City and get our economy growing again, while supporting the creative industries and the amazing work of organisations like the National Theatre.
