A new poll from IMEU Policy Project shows NYC voters OVERWHELMINGLY side with Zohran Kwame Mamdani on Palestine. 78% agree that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. 79% want to restrict weapons to Israel. Dem party leadership has never been so far removed from its own base on this issue.

"And 2 people involved in Michigan politics said (DSCC Chair) Gillibrand has privately encouraged donors to support Stevens" party approval is at its lowest point in decades and its and they think uncharismatic candidates bankrolled by insurance companies is gonna fix it

Fantastic interview where a US senator is, for once, confronted with basic facts about Israeli policy in Gaza and her own responsibility for the horrors there. Is it too much to ask for all interviewers to do this?

There really is no constituency for the Israel hawk in the Democratic Party anymore. Fetterman and those like him represent the past; there just aren't a lot of left-leaning voters with them at all. The starvation in Gaza crystallizes that.

In a five-way race, Mamdani leads among the vast majority of subgroups. Some of these (especially where he’s under 40%) are due largely to Cuomo/Sliwa/Adams splitting the remainder of the vote. But Mamdani is above 50% among 45 subgroups of likely voters.

Here are the five best demographic subgroups for each candidate among likely voters in the five-way race. Cuomo remains relatively strong among older & non-college Black & Latino voters, but loses a lot of traditional Democratic support to the Democratic nominee (Mamdani).

Mamdani leads among Jewish voters, though there are clear dividing lines by age and denomination. Mamdani wins majority support among reform/non-denominational/secular/non-practicing Jews & Jews under age 45. Cuomo wins a plurality of conservative/orthodox Jews and Jews age 45+

There are clear age breaks across races/ethnicities. At least two-thirds of voters under age 45 across races back Mamdani. Cuomo wins pluralities of voters across races age 45+.

Mamdani holds huge leads among renters, people that don’t own cars, and people that take public transportation at least once per week.

Though his rivals criticize Mamdani for his coalition being composed predominantly of “transplants” — and he does win 2/3 of them — he also wins a clear plurality (43%) of native New Yorkers.

Mamdani dominates among progressives/liberals, wins 59% of registered Democrats, and wins 49% of independents. Cuomo leads among moderates. Sliwa, at least for the moment, holds wide leads among registered Republicans and conservatives — groups Cuomo will need to have a shot.

NYC voters are more likely to cite cost of living (especially housing and daily essentials) as more important than crime or public safety. Cuomo is only competitive among those that cite crime and public safety as their top issue. Mamdani cleans up among the rest.

A decade into our program of party building, we celebrate the seismic shift we brought about in NYC in June and assess the road ahead. How can we make sure we continue to keep promises we make to working people whose hopes we raise? How can we build power everywhere?
