The following essay published on Three Quarks Daily—“The Shameless Gaze”—is about the power differential in the relationship between artists and art patrons. It retains a trace of the shock I felt at a members' meeting of an arts organization. Read it: shorturl.at/hkoG0

Here's the first essay I’ve written for the Kleine Zeitung of Austria, which offered me a bi-weekly column. I wrote it in German, haven’t yet translated it into English, and it’s not in the online edition.

One of the pleasures of editing Stat®rec, apart from meeting all the other crazies in Berlin putting out foreign-language literary journals in their spare time, is the chance to shine a spotlight on authors I respect and love. statorec.com/scheggia-by-al… and statorec.com/magic-carpets-…

After sending this around – including to the FAZ, which has published political essays of mine before but will not run this one – and in the span of time it took to translate this into English, I had to change the # of dead in Gaza from 11,000 to 14,000. andreascrima.wordpress.com/2023/11/25/a-g…

"One of the hardest habits of thought to shake is the reflex to look away, to not see what is in front of us, and to not know what we know." Two chapters of Naomi Klein's new book "Doppelganger Effect" about Israel and Palestine are free to download for the next few days.

There’s a parallel between the East/West psychic split Germany underwent post-WWII—each side projecting its own worst guilt & fears etc. onto the other—and the psychic split between Israelis and Palestinians. The dynamic seems key to me & quite possibly explains the inexplicable.
