I can't stop looking at these images.. Iraq at the start of 1980s was on a path towards becoming a global economic power with advanced engineering and urban development.. since the 70s, Iraq was undertaking massive urban projects..

some shelved projects: - expanding their medical city - developing a nuclear city - creating an underground modern metro network linking all of Baghdad - construct a high-end international airport (which they built, but only phase 1) linked to central Baghdad via a metro

Iraq had a crazy amount of ambitious projects. and they had the technology and money to finance all of it the only thing that caused all these projects to be shelved was the Iran-Iraq war. it genuinely destroyed this nation permanently. it's why Iraq is still where it is today

the shelving of these projects and others was meant to be a temporary thing that overtime became permanent due to Iraq's economic and social situation that never improved post-war with Iran..

where would Iraq be had it never entered war.. had it maintained the peace and stability that it had..
