In Denmark until 1800, when celebrating “Fastelavn” kids would beat a barrel with a cat in, symbolising demolishing the devil. There is a lesser known one called “Nøddespark” where grownups would kick a person called Elon (traditional Danish name) in the nuts to summon the devil.
