I’ve accepted a challenge from Danny Ourian to post 7 covers of books I’ve read, no explanations or reviews, just the cover. Each time I post a cover, I’ll ask someone to accept the challenge. My day 7 and final nomination is Brian Alexander

For #SPChallenge, I’m expressing my gratitude to Dr. Megan Byrd for being such a kickass mentor. This is what passion for sport psychology (and research and teaching) looks like! Sport Psych House #TeaHouse (#sorrynotsorry to everyone I cropped out of the pic 🙃)

Feeling, emotion, mood, affect. How do we sort them all out? Feeling can be cognitive or somatic & is usually temporary. Emotion is cognitive w/touch of spiritual. Mood is long(er)-term emotion, stickier. Affect is a trait/characteristic - how you tend to show up. Just my $.02!

AD’s & Athletic Admin: There IS a difference between someone who does clinical mental work (i.e., psychologist, counselor) AND someone who does mental training (i.e., sport psychology consultant, mental performance coach). Different training and education, they’re not the same.

Tonight’s reflection: the difference minutes can make... Today, I was getting ready to leave for work when a friend heard about the bomb threat and texted me to see if I was okay. One day, the news will no longer be just news to you. Unfortunately, this is our reality now.

The Confidence Equation: Thoughts ➕Focus ➕Actions = Confidence. Your confidence is shaped by what you focus on, how you think, your beliefs, and your actions. What you think about, you focus on. What you focus on, you act upon. #BeyondGrit

This lil researcher (and/or monster) created by Dr. Megan Byrd. Would not be the (aspiring) scholar I am today without her and her Research Methods A course. #DrByrdforAASPmentoraward

Lessons learned from Ken Ravizza: Observe & ask great questions. See things from different perspectives. Be uncomfortable. Be vulnerable & real. Go slow, be present. Put it out there. Go for it. This is where you need to be. #AASP2019’s most emotional & heartwarming session.

3 take-aways from #AASP2019 : 1️⃣ You’re never too good to get better. 2️⃣ The best practitioners are the best students—they never stop learning. 3️⃣ You can learn something from everyone, regardless of their experience or resume.

"We aren't fit" is often really another problem in disguise. Eliminate all other potential factors before adding more or different conditioning work, especially in-season.

If you really want to make a change 👉you can’t just choose it today 👉you can’t just choose it when it’s popular 👉you can’t just choose it when it’s convenient You have to choose it EVERYDAY.

The work works if you work it. It doesn’t work if you don’t. Mental skills are to be trained consistently, not thought about once and then peacing out. Consistency over time = results you’ll notice.
