Another role that Jane Street is hiring for that I'm really excited about: front-end software engineers to work on web-based UIs for operating our trading infrastructure. (RT's appreciated!)

I didn't think a new browser could immediately impress me, but Arc by The Browser Company is truly something else. I never knew just how many features Chrome was missing.

Is every large Next.JS project absolutely borked by npm’s handling of optional and peer dependencies? If not, how are you managing them?

Building success is hard and adding more developers doesn't help the early days. Having a vision is highly important and it takes a lot to make that reality. If Revere wasn't doing so well I'd apply to this in a heartbeat.

My company (Revere CRE) is hiring again! We're looking for full-stack devs to work on our commercial real estate platform, no minimum experience. Building with React, Relay, TypeScript, and more. We have some incredible engineers on the team, get in touch if you'd like to join 😄

Just released version 1.0.0 of relay-nextjs! This is the first breaking API change since we published the package and allows apps to start using Client Schema Extensions and Relay Resolvers. These features are amazing and I'm excited to ship with them. github.com/RevereCRE/rela…

How are people generally handling SSR mismatches in React when rendering dates? "8 hours ago" may differ depending on where it's rendered e.g client is America/New_York and server is Europe/Dublin. We created an internal library to handle this and are considering open-sourcing it

For Next.js apps I'm going to continue using getInitialProps for the foreseeable future. Definitely appreciate everything coming out of the React and Vercel teams, but server components are just a miss.

Been heads down for a while now, but getting promoted to Head of Engineering and managing our team has been pretty rewarding

This is just useEffect with stale dependencies. They’ll jump through hoops because the JS influencers say something is an anti-pattern, only to end up at the same solution with different syntax.

>decide to interview at SV startup >ask CTO if it’s a Peter Thiel or Paul Graham company >he doesn’t understand >pull out diagram of explaining the difference in philosophy >he laughs and says “it’s a good startup sir” >join as founding engineer anyway >it’s the worst of both
