Many thanks to Ricardo for taking the time to talk with me on his podcast about my book “Optimally Irrational” and the reasons why our “biases” are often good solutions to the problems we face.

.@Twitter is dying. That’s okay. If anything it needs to be killed off soonest. Elon Musk cannot be allowed to promoted dangerous radical views… hate speech. Imagine Geobbles with a bigger platform and wider reach.

This has been just a devastating decade in Turkey. Today's horrors are very much intertwined with the overall political situation, since massive corruption has led to shoddy construction, stolen earthquake funds, minimum preparations for the inevitable, and an economy in tatters.

Abolish journals. They fuck us in two ways: 1) they are mostly owned by commercial publishers who will NEVER pay reviewers, and you will never get them to, no matter how much you complain, b/c academics for SOME reason decided to give them the power to manage peer review.

What Wikipedia did: we stood strong for our principles and fought to the Supreme Court of Turkey and won. This is what it means to treat freedom of expression as a principle rather than a slogan.

What drives societal variation in cooperation? Across culturally highly distant societies, we find that cooperative differences are mostly driven by differences in beliefs about others' cooperation, rather than cooperative preferences or peer punishment. New paper!

Psychologists love asking people how they think about trolley dilemmas to study moral decision-making: "Should you kill a person to save five?". But thinking about a dilemma is not the same thing as actually confronting one in real life. We developed a lab-based real-life
