Very interesting! Curious how many % of the British population consumed tea with regularity in early 19th century. The amount of imports appeared small compared with later decades when supply from China increased hugely after Opium War, which may lower prices even further.

1. This paper highlights selective coverage of sensitive political events in gazetteers, an issue of missing data that quantitative researchers need to carefully address. 2. There is no direct evidence in this paper pointing to the falsification of statistics in gazetteers.
