Finished reading this today. What a remarkable novel, in which the narrator comes to startling, intense conclusions about the nature of life after being confronted by a violent action taken upon a roach. Existentialist, mysterious, sensuous, gorgeous, and deeply strange.

Moving has officially commenced. Going to miss this little house and its perfect indoor window, but looking forward to having a lot more space.

Finally unwinding after a long day of transporting physical media. The things we do for love, the love we do for things.

I often talk about the children's books that shaped adult me (The Phantom Tollbooth, A Wrinkle in Time, etc.) and I was just put in mind of another major one: the surreal absurdist humor of Sideways Stories from Wayside School. I hadn't realized this was written in 1978!

My posts yesterday about Louis Sachar's Wayside School stories & Fugazi are both just filled with nothing but pleasant comments and recollections of great memories. Cheers to the writers, musicians, and artists who make this world just a little bit more of a bearable place 🥂

I've read a couple Jesse Ball books and mostly liked them. He's got a new one coming out called The Repeat Room and it's described as "Franz Kafka meets Yorgos Lanthimos. 👀Sounds pretty good! books.catapult.co/books/the-repe…

I called my mom, who is NOT a movie person, to test out recording a phone call. I asked her to tell me about the last movie she watched and she proceeded to recount the plot of The Beekeeper and wax poetic about the “awesomeness” of Jason Statham. 🤭

Did I coordinate picking up Don DeLillo's football novel with the beginning of the season? Yes, yes I did. I've heard it's not great but I'd like to form my own opinion. It's also a terrific addition to my mass market paperback collection.
