What sort of reasoning is this? Why do you lots argue like we were stuck at ¢20/l for three years and only got a relief by your govt?

'The cedi is strong now. Prices should reflect that strength.' Then proceeds to levy the one commodity that has the widest reaching impact on the cost and quality of life of every citizen. How do you go about insulting people's sensibilities like this ?!!

In one breadth we must all understand that we can't borrow our way through solving the energy crisis. Home-grown strategies like taxes are key. What raises the opposition is a ‘recycled’ cheap politics on taxes for political gains. Reduce the levy & restructure ECG operation

He is in parliament this evening as I type this to debate and vote on the passage of the Energy sector levy and Ghc 1 levy on every litre on petroleum purchased.

Governments don’t have full control over things like oil prices and exchange rates because they can change suddenly due to events around the world. So, putting more tax on fuel isn’t a long term solution, it just makes life harder for people. I hope the bill doesn’t go through

E-levy was never meant to impoverish the people. As a matter of fact, the argument the government at the time made are almost similar to the argument the government is making today(revenue generation etc) in relation to the D-levy and Ghc 1 on every litre of petroleum purchased.

I fail to understand your point Kwaku. If all 187 MPs are not present and they don’t have quorum( which I doubt because the session began with the house meeting a quorum or) whatever decision the house comes to without the necessary constitutional provision is null and void.

CURTIS A. OWUSU (@_i_am_curtis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Alright, I mistook the quorum needed for sitting to be the same for a bill to be passed. That said, the Hansard will show whether or not the house met the quorum requirement for the passage of the bill if they do pass it. The court can make a ruling based on the records right?

CURTIS A. OWUSU (@_i_am_curtis) 's Twitter Profile Photo

We may be drifting into the technicalities of the standing orders but that is for the court to determine and the house to uphold because to the best of my knowledge, MPs but be present on the floor of parliament when it comes to quorum. Not necessarily when they reported.

The government in power got over 56% of the total valid votes cast and is currently enjoying an overwhelming goodwill from the people. Patriots in my opinion, we are crying more than the bereaved.
