Spent the morning with some great AP staff today, and one key takeaway for mainstream staff: don’t ‘threaten kids with AP’ if they don’t behave. It creates a negative impression that good APs have to work hard to undo when the kid arrives. These are places of intensive care, not

We did it!!!! 7 years in the making & we have finally welcomed our families to Strive, was such a special feeling seeing all the smiley faces & everyone coming together & having fun. Might have been hard work & a bit out there, but anything is possible when you #daretodream. Now

One of my class’s favourite things to do is ‘be the illustrator’. They have to silently read the sentence and then draw a picture on their whiteboards to show what they have read. Some children might only read a few words but they can draw whatever they read. They love it 🥰🖤

Representing your understanding of a text through illustration or visuals not only creates a mental model but also deepens the learning by providing both visual and linguistic connections. Build your schema! We provide research-informed professional learning for schools.

So many of these writing ideas are really practising writing sentences - if children cannot accurately write interesting sentences then prose will be a challenge. This is a much better way of doing grammar than dull exercises - this way they exercise the imagination.

An old blog about using writing journals like a writer - we call them magpie books - for gathering ideas, listing thoughts, stealing language, testing and trialling ideas - from year two onwards (never seen in secondary!): piecorbett.blogspot.com/2014/07/magpie…

I have 3 children with complex needs in my class and one of them had just had enough today. He was tired and tearful, so we laid on the beanbag in the reading area and I sang to him as he hugged my hand on his tummy. One of the other children came up and asked if he was okay.

One of the beautiful resources in the old National Numeracy Strategy was the mathematical vocab booklet. It's still a thing of joy & you can download it here. Some things have shifted yr grps but as progression in mathematical vocab goes, it's still lovely dera.ioe.ac.uk/id/eprint/5248…
