Congratulations Dr Aled Evans - thx for letting me join the OceanEarthUniSoton #PhD celebrations & great cake Jude Coggon

IODP Expedition 393 Begins UK-IODP #EXP393 #X393 JOIDES Resolution IODP at Texas A&M Dr Michelle Harris Tom Belgrano OceanEarthUniSoton

It’s finally happening! In Cape Town ready to join IODP #exp393. Just 7 days of quarantine to go….caught some glimpses of the JOIDES Resolution on the drive from the airport (zoom in to the left of the palm tree!) & I lucked out on the view from my room, 7 days of this view can’t be bad!

Day 2 of hotel quarantine from Cape Town and Tom Belgrano are taking in the sights #EXP393 #X393 UK-IODP OceanEarthUniSoton

Bit of window time with Dr Aled Evans during Cape Town quarantine for IODP at Texas A&M #Exp393 to the South Atlantic Transect. 6 more days then JOIDES Resolution time. Supported by UK-IODP, Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute, Natural Environment Research Council, UoS OES! ECORD

Day 4 of hotel quarantine and new measures to ensure maximum winter sun exposure are in full force Tom Belgrano

We know from heat flow data that hydrothermal circulation cools ocean crust beyond ~20 Myr, but this is radiometrically tricky to prove. 12k vein measurements on SAT cores from Dr Aled Evans Dr Michelle Harris @elliotjcarter have provided a new way in! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
