DuckDB 1.4.0 is feature-packed, e.g. MERGE INTO, compressed in-mem DBs, Iceberg writes, ... PhD students contributed cool stuff: - Laurens Kuiper: new k-way parallel mergesort (duckdb.org/2025/09/24/sor…), - Lotte Felius: on-disk DB encryption, - Denis Hirn: materialized CTEs.

Sometimes you need to crash, burn, and refactor to really see the value in “small first.” Scott Haines will unpack four hard lessons where embracing smallness didn’t just rescue projects, but led to better product, better performance, better dev happiness. If you want avoidable

AI hit the reset button on data engineering. Now what? Joe Reis is tackling this exact question at Small Data SF next month. The talk will cover how things are evolving: new team structures, why agentic workflows matter, and why we're shifting from analytics to automated action

Early in my data journey, I used and enjoyed Pandas. But when I found DuckDB, it changed everything. I could use SQL everywhere and get a lot of practice with it. There are lots of great reasons to pick DuckDB for your analytics tasks!
