Wonderful NYT article on tension between groundbreaking investigate journalism -- which benefits from simple narrative and heroes/villains -- and a more comprehensive picture, with uncertain truths, and limits against self-delusion. nytimes.com/2020/05/17/bus…

I hope twitter is talking to information operations/warfare consultants. This platform is going to be hijacked/manipulated at a new level -- so many embedded videos are taken down after tweeting; massive deception and fog of war; no objective record

Life of a drug policy scholar (my version): To find your paper cited related to interesting and personal causes (I studied in Ghana, where cannabis was often seen as a cause of homicide and homosexuality) -- and to find the citation of your work is so vague as to be meaningless.

Something I have learned in practicing management/coaching: When giving feedback, prioritize identifying and complimenting on desirable aspects of behavior Something I have learned in academia: read every paper to find all the bad stuff and comment exclusively on that

Is this a valid citation? My paper demonstrates rising high-THC sales but no justification for a THC tax. Further, is there some process or tradition in place for cited authors to ensure their work is being cited accurately?

I notice many people refer to cannabis as a "soft drug", and alcohol as "not a drug". I wonder -- will we see cannabis also transition to "not a drug"? Will other substances become seen as "soft drugs"?

Watched a "best of Ronald Reagan debate" video on youtube last night. Key observations: 1. Despite always hearing of his critical flaws, and believing them, I'd never heard him speak at length 2. very respectful speaker. 3. very sincere speaker. 4. real attempt to persuade

History is cyclical. Still wrapping my mind around the fact that research like this exists and even gets high-profile publications and still no one seems to think this type of logic is legitimate nor do we incorporate it into our political understanding. nature.com/articles/46360…

A humorous reminder of bias in the media. Not partisan bias. Not "mainstream" media. Bias towards criticism, towards reflection, towards re-thinking and re-iterating, for better or for worse. PS bias need not be "bad". It is simply a systematic lean.
