This photo was taken from Woden Law hillfort in the Borders as I began my walk along the Roman road known as Dere Street. You can see the line of the road running across the centre of the image, past the site of Pennymuir Roman camps and into the distance. #HillfortWednesday

Spotted in Melrose last week, a plaque to the Curle brothers and George Macdonald, the 'Big Three' of Roman archaeology in Scotland in the early 20th century. If you ask me, we need to nominate a new 'Big Three' for the 21st century - but who to include...? Trimontium Trust
‘Duncan’s Gate’ - One of Colchester’s two remaining Roman gates which are still visible above ground. Excavated in the 1920s by Dr P M Duncan, the gate was one of six and dates to the late 1st century AD. #RomamSiteSaturday #RomanBritain #Colchester 📸 My own.

Our fantastic stone finial in the museum is one of our largest objects on display. In architecture, a finial is a decorative ornament to empathize the roof. #FindsFriday #RomanBritain #RomanVilla

Happy memories of my walk along Dere Street through the Scottish Borders. I am currently reliving that journey as I write a book about my adventures along the Roman road...coming (fairly) soon! #FingerpostFriday
