Aelia Eudoxia was married to the Eastern Emperor, Arcadius, on 27th April AD395 - They were both around 18 years old. They had at least five children together & Eudoxia was able to gain considerable power due to the weakness of her husband. The image is Arcadius.

Here are a range of cooking pots and vessels and a griddle found at and all dating to between AD80-180. For the ordinary , food was basic. The staple diet consisted mostly of a wheat-based porridge, seasoned with herbs or meat if available.

The festival of Robigalia took place on 25th April with games & the sacrifice of a red-coloured puppy. It was aimed to appease the god Robigus, god of rust & responsible for agricultural diseases - rust seen as a disease that affected the crops.

The Cramond Lioness - This sculpture was found in the mouth of the River Almond at Cramond, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1997. It shows a bound male prisoner being eaten by the Lioness & is thought to come from Cramond Roman Fort. It dates to the Mid 2nd - early 3rd century AD.

Roman Portland Vase housed in the British Museum. Discovered in Rome, dating from between 25BC-25AD. This stunningly beautiful vase is translucent dark cobalt blue and opaque white cameo glass and it’s believed the imagery may relate to the story of Peleus and Thetis.

This Cameo in the Hermitage Museum, Russia, was commissioned by Agrippina the Younger & dates to around AD41/42. It shows her son, Nero aged about 5 with the Emperor Augustus and the Empress Livia - his Great Great Grandparents - illustrating his claim to the throne.
