It is so weird to be an immigrant academic right now. Your family thinks you are successful. Some of your country people think you are anti-national. People at work think you came here due to lack of opportunities back home. Some politicians here think that you stole their jobs.

If you are supervising an international student who is trying to write in their non-native language - tell them how awesome they are. They often feel incompetent, frustrated and even stupid. In reality they're really smart - just doing something very complicated. Tell them.

After years of planning and failing, visa, COVID, failing health, finances and god knows what, my parents are FINALLY here in the US!! I cannot express how much I have prayed for this day.

Every day I am in awe of international students. Doing a PhD in your native language and home country is hard. Doing it in a non-native language, in a different country and different culture is so much harder. You are not stupid. You are legends.

Your academic journey is YOURS. It's unique, valuable and worthy. Remember, comparison is the thief of joy. Stay focused on your own path.

First conference of 2024- Gave a talk, presented a poster, chaired a session and got to listen to Prof. @CarolynBertozzi give a talk. What an experience - both personally and professionally. Enjoyed so much and learnt so much more. Biophysical Society #BPS2024 #IDPs

No matter how bad the day goes, these days I always return home to lots of love (and licks) and I feel bad that I never knew this kind of love for the first 30 years of my life. She is a rescue but in reality she rescues me from my mess every day. #Blessing
