Through BTO 's Ringing Scheme we know Redshank is a long distance migrant. A bird ringed in Kent was found freshly dead nearly 4 months later having travelled 4242km SWW to Senegal. The peak count in Cornwall on BirdTrack = 500 (4 times) on the Camel estuary (Jan/Feb) Cornwall Birds

Our first Chough resighting from County Waterford! SKV was ringed as a chick in Ballycroneen, Ballycotton, East Cork on 14th May 2024 and seen on 29th December near Ardmore. Only about 30km as the crow flies, but a great link to another population BTO National Parks and Wildlife Service BirdWatch Ireland

January and February are great months to spot Smew. If you scan a lake, reservoir or coastal waters you may see the crisp black and white-coloured male or red-headed female. 📝 Help us monitor these birds by reporting your sightings to BirdTrack➡️ bto.org/BirdTrack

It's certainly cold outside! ❄️ If you’re out exploring this weekend, please be mindful of birds that will be under extra pressure in these severe conditions and give them the space they need to remain undisturbed. Thank you. 🙂 #Ornithology
