This morning, I chose to wake my son up by saying “Ms Alsobrook won, buddy”. The Angela Alsobrooks campaign gave me this little nugget of goodness this morning. I am grateful for it.

Voters in Louisiana’s CD6 have elected Cleo Fields with 51% of the vote, canceling the need for a runoff election. The district was created in response to LDF’s recent litigation on behalf of Black voters and organizations like Power Coalition for Equity and Justice and the Louisiana NAACP.

To everyone who fought for more Black political power in the South when they said it couldn’t be done, WE DID THIS.

That case led to the creation of LA’s first majority-Black congressional district, CD2. In the months ahead, LDF will argue at SCOTUS in Louisiana v. Callais to defend the future of fair representation and the current congressional map. naacpldf.org/press-release/…
