People don’t understand that soldered 8G VRAM is the issue. NV has produced tons of 8 GB GPUs over the past 10 years, creating a strong illusion in the Steam Hardware Chart that 8GB is sufficient for gaming, which is definitely not the case in 2025.

Valve should release a barebone version without memory and SSD, at least allowing us to use our existing ones.

Not really, Micron will still be one of the major DRAM vendors. They just ended their own consumer brand; that doesn’t mean you will not see Micron DRAM in retail memory modules like Gskill, Kingston, etc.

Micron ending Crucial as a consumer brand is a PR disaster. Micron was the only DRAM chip manufacturer that still runs its own consumer brand. It actually cared about the consumer market more than Samsung and Hynix. At this moment, it just tanks its brand image forever
