Really pleased and excited to be joining Oppidan Education as one of their new mentors - can't wait to get stuck in with such a fabulous and fun organisation!

Ain't no better feeling than booking a 10-day trip to Paris. Archives, fun conference.... and the AirBnb I've nabbed is literally over the road from the venue!
Winner, winner, poulet rôti.

Some days I want to do research. Other days I want to sack it all in and open a sourdough micro-bakery like the ones on my Instagram feed.

So grateful to the Arts and Humanities Research Council for continuing to support my fieldwork in Parisian archives with another very generous tranche of travel and accommodation funding!
It means I'll also definitely be able to attend the FMC conference this Summer - can't wait!

Hello! Do I have any lovely colleagues (or colleagues of colleagues) at Princeton, Harvard, Yale, or UC Berkeley who might be able to scan some bits of a book!? I would be eternally grateful!!!

Did a floor workout, ran 5k (in 26min), showered, shaved, and still got to the library by 10:30... am I becoming everybody's least favourite person?

Things that were on my to-do list today:
- Read some stuff
- Eat some noodles

Things that were not on my to-do list:
- Stumble across an entire new case study and totally rethink my entire thesis.

Sighs in academic...

Hivemind!
I'm getting the sense from some primary stuff that towards the end of the 19thC there was a greatly increased emphasis placed on visual spectacle over other theatrical modes.
So, question: was there a 'visual turn' in the fin de siècle, and where can I read about it?

I had SUCH FUN visiting Harry Gosling Primary School last week to talk to their amazing students about how they can improve - and, importantly, use - their many different languages! Merci - à la prochaine! 🧑‍🎓🥐🇫🇷

🚨ANYONE IN OR NEAR OXFORD TOMORROW🚨

I'm speaking at All Souls College (Wharton Room) at 2pm alongside Richard Scholar and Jenny Oliver as part of the 'Rabelais Live' seminar series! Will be talking about nineteenth-century Rabelaisian opera and keeping authors undead... Venez!

Any help translating this very welcome! Most is fine, it's just the 'jouer de la pratique et des jambes'...

‘un monsieur qui, doué d’un caractère fort triste et sans aptitude à jouer de la pratique et des jambes, se rendrait néanmoins au bal de l’Opéra déguisé en polichinelle.’
