We discuss how Taiwanese singer Jay Chou uses the same sets of linguistic variants to index drastically different social meanings. This is made possible through the differing degree of conformity to the linguistic norms and the stylization in other semiotic channels.

Speakers merging T3-T6 in HK Cantonese increase their phonetic distinction when imitating unmerged stimuli, but only for one of the two talkers, possibly due to the greater phonetic distance in his production. Talker social rating and shadower lg attitudes didn't matter much.
