Excited to share our recent study published to today New Phytologist in which we studied Ginkgo biloba trees across China to explore spatial variation in phenological sensitivity to climate change! nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/np… Zhaofei Wu yongshuo Thomas Crowther Josep Penuelas Crowther Lab
🌳🍃 Exciting news from our latest research on the global biogeography of tree leaf form and habit! Dive in to understand why this matters for our planet. nature.com/articles/s4147… Haozhi Ma Thomas Crowther Crowther Lab LidongMo Yibiao Zou
Check out our new paper on the global restoration potential of forests and woody ecosystems. We need nature for climate and we need climate action for nature. nature.com/articles/s4158… LidongMo Crowther Lab Thomas Crowther nature
How are we exploring the dimensionality of #biodiversity for global nature conservation? From fungi to rewilding forests, seeds to the global carbon cycle — ecology shows us how everything is connected. Great lecture from Thomas Crowther!
Our group has an open postdoctoral position investigating the role of soil microbes in plant invasions and ecosystem restoration! See more info here and come find me at the British Ecological Society meeting next week to chat 🤓🍄 Crowther Lab jobs.ethz.ch/job/view/JOPG_…
Our 2nd day at #Biology24 was all about vegetation ecology! Great job to Dominic Rebindaine & Yibiao Zou for presenting their work on autumn #phenology & #forest fragmentation, respectively 🥳 And shout-out to lab member Katharina Runge who moderated a session & helped run the event! 👏
Why are there many evergreen and deciduous forests, but few mixed ones? Yibiao Zou discovered an interesting mechanism behind it. Read the paper: nature.com/articles/s4146… Crowther Lab WSL Dynamic Macroecology
Very happy to see this paper online! And definitely can’t make it without help from people in the Crowther Lab and all the coauthors. Special thanks to Constantin Zohner Thomas Crowther Colin Averill for your amazing supervision during this journey!
For the first time ever, we found large-scale evidence for alternative stable states in temperate forests. 🌳🌲 Learn more in Nature Communications about the feedback loops maintaining deciduous & evergreen forests as stable states: doi.org/10.1038/s41467… Yibiao Zou Constantin Zohner Thomas Crowther
Why do some forests go evergreen while others lose their leaves in winter? We show evidence that these forest types present alternative stable states across temperate regions. Led by our brilliant PhD student Yibiao Zou. Thanks to all the coauthors for making this study possible!
Zou et al. combine forest biodiversity observations & simulations to show that leaf types across northern hemisphere temperate regions follow a bimodal distribution. Yibiao Zou Thomas Crowther Constantin Zohner Crowther Lab D-USYS@ETH nature.com/articles/s4146…
Thanks everyone for coming out to #Nachtaktiv and keeping #PhDstudents Dominic Rebindaine & Yibiao Zou' #phenology 🍃 and forest #ecology table busy the entire evening! 🥳 We had a great time talking to the participants, sharing our #science & spreading #PlantLove! 🌍 Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center
This champion passed his aptitude colloquium! 💪 For #PhDstudents at @eth_en, like our Dominic Rebindaine, the colloquium serves as a test to check how fit & robust their PhD plan is. And Dominic obviously smashed the presentation on his #phenology research. Congrats! 👏🥳
