Happy St Andrew's Day! It's Scotland's National Day and a celebration of all things Scottish, so here are two of the country's symbols combined. The Unicorn and the Saltire! People always give me a strange look when they find out Scotland's National animal is the Unicorn...

On this day in 1306: Robert The Bruce was crowned King of Scots at Scone. After the execution of William Wallace, he led the campaign to regain Scottish independence, culminating in his stunning victory at the Battle of Bannockburn in June 1314.

There's been major upheavals in the political world since we joined twitter 12 years ago, and the UK has changed for the worse. Support for Scottish independence is still as strong as it was at the 2014 indyref ballot, so it's time that question was asked again! #MyXAnniversary

Congratulations to the 2025 Rutherglen Landemer Day Queen Maci Aulds Cathkin High School pupil and her ladies in waiting. Such a shame the rain decided to appear. Hopefully it won’t keep people away from popping down to the Main Street, plenty of stalls and the funfair to enjoy.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿The dream shall never die Eternal thanks go to the late Alex Salmond for getting Scotland closer to independence - 11 years ago today - than any other person ever has. His political skill and strategy enabled us all to embrace a campaign of hope and possibility. Better times.

We've had some very sad news this Christmas-time. Good friend of YR&C, and former Rutherglen Councillor, Gordon Clark has died. We send our deepest sympathies to his family while remembering him as a dedicated public servant and champion of Scottish independence. RIP
