#Rohingya tell me that conditions in the #Bangladesh refugee camps are restrictive with barely any access to formal education, freedom of movement, or free speech. Many #Rohingya take to the open sea to seek protection in #Malaysia. aljazeera.com/news/2022/10/4…

There is a lot going on in #rohingya camps in Bangladesh that we don't hear much about on the outside bc it's risky for people to speak up. Rampant, almost daily killings, systematic corruption everywhere. Even if protection actors can't do anything they could at least speak up!

"[The junta] has virtually no public support; it controls less than a quarter of Myanmar’s territory; and it has no prospect for a military victory. The resistance, by contrast, does," write Billy Ford & Ye Myo Hein. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar usip.org/publications/2…

Refugees are not migrants. Migrants are not refugees. All have rights that must be respected, but we should not conflate the two. Refugees have the right to seek asylum and to international protection from persecution and violence.

Many #Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh face violence from militants. For the most at-risk, resettlement to 3rd countries is the best solution. More great writing on this from Kaamil Ahmed in The Guardian, quoting Yasmin Ara & John Quinley III Fortify Rights + theguardian.com/global-develop…
