Was checking a few things on Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - Potteric Carr today. Sheep in one field, ponies in another. Both on ex-arable land, but now reasonably interesting for wildlife (and continuing to get better). And first St George's mushroom of the year on a piece of relict habitat.

Blooming great news! Last autumn our Potteric Carr volunteers planted these colourful marsh marigolds, grown from locally sourced seeds. 💛 After a long wet winter, they’ve finally burst into bloom, serving up early season nectar for Potteric’s invertebrates - well done team! 👏

Spring rolls on. First Celery-leaved Buttercup of the year, and the Cuckooflower is perhaps at it's peak just now, as are the Marsh Marigolds. At Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - Potteric Carr Bluebells looking good. Certainly at peak Dandelion on the roads round me, some areas are more yellow than green!

Spotted a few things around Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - Potteric Carr today. Comma caterpillar on Wych Elm, Trifid Bur-marigold, a mite gall on Yellow Loosestrife, and Knotgrass Leaf Beetle. Finding things you aren't looking for is a nice bonus for the day.

I've just set up monthly BIOSCAN in the UK trap at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust - Potteric Carr If the biting flies that were getting me whilst setting up, and the numbering the trap after only a few minutes, is anything to go by then I'll have hundreds or thousands of things to sift through tomorrow!

We’ve loved sharing news with the friends we’ve made here over the last 15 years. But many have disappeared, we’re not getting the reach, and so with heavy hearts we’re putting our X accounts into hibernation. Find us flourishing instead on new and improving habitats... 1/2
