HAPPENING NOW: The Senate is debating legislation that will put an end to #prisongerrymandering, which counts prisoners as residents of the town where they are incarcerated, rather than the town where they live. "These aren't bodies. These are human beings."~Sen. Gary Winfield .

Today, the Senate took a significant step toward eliminating gerrymandering in our legislative districts by voting to end the practice of counting incarcerated people in prison rather than in their home towns, for purposes of redistricting. (1/3)

GOOD NEWS! S.B. 753, a bill to abolish prison gerrymandering in our state, just passed the Senate (35-1) with bipartisan support. Now, it awaits action in the House. Prison gerrymandering is racist and undemocratic, and it must end.

With an overwhelming bipartisan vote, the Connecticut Senate has approved legislation to #EndPrisonGerrymandering for the first time ever! Now, the House must vote to send SB 753 to Governor Ned Lamont. CT cannot miss this historic opportunity to defend democracy & racial justice.

Connecticut’s system of prison gerrymandering distorts the redistricting process and deprives Connecticut communities of fair and equal representation. We support abolishing prison gerrymandering in #Connecticut. #FairMaps #ctleg btlonline.org/connecticut-ca…

Big news! Connecticut just ended prison gerrymandering today for state/local redistricting, via SB753. This is the practice of counting incarcerated people at prison locations, which skews power and representation. This is the 10th state to do this, in time for the 2020s maps.

ICYMI: Yesterday, Connecticut became the 11th state to abolish the racist, undemocratic practice of prison gerrymandering. This moment is ONLY possible because justice-impacted people and their loved ones have been fighting for it for more than a decade. acluct.org/en/press-relea…
