Off to Gulu! This is the start of a three-day, EU in Uganda-led 🇪🇺 Heads of Mission visit, to take stock of the situation and cooperation in Acholi country in northern Uganda.

The districts of Nakapiripirit and Amudat in Karamoja are affected by drought and severe food insecurity. This week, I returned to this region where France has been alongside the local population since 2018, currently through a food aid project affecting up to 20,000 people.

Thank you The New Vision for also giving the floor to James Aleper & Rose Lokol from Nakwat, Karamoja. Glad to learn that their daily lives had been transformed. Despite the challenges, agriculture in Karamoja has potential. Initiatives + the work of local people will free it up.

Clearly there is still a long way to go before I can throw a spear like a true Karamojong cowherd… Karamoja has a strong identity and a vibrant culture which Kara-Tunga, Karamoja Tours has turned into an asset for responsible tourism. Always a pleasure to stay at their lodge in Moroto!
