Mike Hodges' Get Carter is also showing today at the BFI as part of the Moviedrome season. Here's the text for Alex Cox's original intro... Get Carter is a nasty British gangster film. For some reason, all British movie gangsters are extremely nasty... /1 #moviedrome

60 years ago today, the first episode of Mogul (later The Troubleshooters) was broadcast on BBC One. I really hope that more people get an opportunity to watch what exists of this show, it's such a shame that most of it is stuck in the archives.

this clip from Elaine Stritch’s documentary about how she befriended an newbie in AA is so good because a) it’s classic Elaine Stritch and b) I can attest that in those first few months of sobriety one of the things that kept me sober was giving people rides to/from meetings

If you were one of the many poor people living through the "industrial revolution" and the "British Empire" then there would be times that no matter how much your child begged you for food there'd be absolutely nothing you could do about it.

RIP Dave Rogers. This book was all we had back in the day. Videogems used the episode list and tx dates in the early 90s to help coordinate their VHS releases - they kindly sent me a photocopy of this page long before I got hold of the book. #TheProfessionals
