A rare rain event might unfold in typically arid southern Egypt, one of the hottest and driest regions on Earth, due to an anomalous northward shift of the ITF’s eastern portion. Just a few millimeters would be enough to give this desert area several years’ worth of rainfall.

Japan 🇯🇵 just experienced its hottest day in recorded history at a national scale with an incredible 301 weather stations recording a high temperature exceeding 35°C (95°F). The longevity of this heatwave is staggering.

I’ve rarely ever seen such a high amount of available atmospheric moisture content over one of the driest regions on Earth. The anomalously northward-displaced ITF is resulting in a dramatic increase in precipitable water anomalies over the eastern Sahara, maxing out at ~9 sigma.

The high temperature at Deadhorse, Alaska, along the Arctic Ocean coast, yesterday, August 6th, was an astonishing 31.7°C (89°F). That’s 21°C above average for the date and 2.2°C above the previous record. Exceptional heat for this part of the world.

This is getting ridiculous. It is still technically winter in the Southern Hemisphere but today’s high temperature at Oodnadatta in South Australia soared to an unbelievable +39.4°C (103°F).

I am running out of words to describe how absurd August 2024 was in Svalbard. Reaching an average temperature of 11°C in August would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. This is totally bonkers.

A massive rainfall event is looking increasingly likely for parts of central Europe over the next few days. The reason: a slow-moving cut off upper low fueled by anomalously warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. If anything near that verifies, catastrophic flooding is likely.

Tributary dams across eastern Czech Republic have started releasing large volumes of water to bring reservoir levels down to create storage for what could become one of the worst flooding events in Central Europe’s modern history.

Flooding in parts of Central Europe is shaping up to be just as bad as many feared. This is footage from Głuchołazy in Poland near the border with the Czech Republic.

As feared, Storm Boris is wreaking havoc across parts of Central Europe with major flooding becoming widespread throughout the region. Here’s a 50-hour visible satellite and radar loop courtesy of Zoom Earth

A weather station in Czech Republic has recorded over 450 mm of rain over the past 96 hours, leading to disastrous flooding. That’s half a year's worth of rain in just 4 days.
