My first chapter is now 1,800 words, and I’m pretty excited that it’s more or less full length. I’ve written a lot over the last few years but as a high school freshman this is actually my first full size book chapter. I hope to write several dozen more, and then have a story

Hooks. Lots of writers think that you only have one hook per novel. This isn't true. Each chapter should have a hook so that you are constantly affirming to the reader their desire to read on. Think of a chapter as if it were a complete story. #writingcommunity

Readers 'skim' what they think is not important. What is important to the writer may not be important to the reader. This is a hard lesson. Sections you labor over may be skimmed by readers. Identify your own skimming habits and highlight these in a book to review later.

#WritingCommunity is blackmail cliche, or does it have potential as a subplot? I want to do it and hopefully in a unique way but I don’t know if it’s taboo or not to be honest
